As fate would have it, we three Kol Shofarniks––Deborah Boyar, BatSheva Feld, and I––all arrived in Israel before the war began. Some of our cohort for the AJMA Ilene Serlin Israel Trauma Mission are unable to enter the country. We do not know what will happen over the next days and weeks. Our trauma mission may not go as planned, but the three of us are here, and each in our way will be a participant in this historic Jewish moment.
Today, we stand with the Israeli people. This is where I was meant to be at this moment, and I am both comforted and a source of comfort to my Israeli family, friends, and our Israeli community. I feel very connected to the Jewish people, and share in both the anxiety and anticipation of what comes next. But for now, we are here: HINEINI.
